David’s ‘Walking day’ series of paintings echo nostalgia of a local tradition. The children are painted in a much more formal way, joining in the traditional church parades around the streets of Wigan.
The children are walking with banners to the beat of marching bands. Again, David creates the rhythm through carefully constructed repetition of shapes.

‘Walkin’ day’ poem, written in *Wiganese. By Lawrence Hoy, musician and poet.
*Wiganese: the local dilect spoken in Wigan town, Lancashire.
